Anchor Text

What is Anchor Text?

Anchor text is the clickable text that appears on a website, in an email, or in other types of digital assets, which marks a hyperlink. It is designed to stand out from the rest of the text (it is usually blue and underlined), so users can intuitively understand that it can be clicked on.

Why are Anchor Texts important?

Anchor texts are a key part of the user experience. You want your users to immediately understand where your links are going to take them and be satisfied that the destination is what they had expected. As such, relevant and descriptive anchor text can improve user experience and overall browsing.

But anchor text helps more than just users to determine what a linked page is about. Relevant anchor text also helps Google algorithms understand your site structure, providing more context about how different pages are related to each other, and ultimately improving your website’s rankings on search engines.
