IMAP

What is IMAP?

IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol. It's a protocol that allows you to access your email messages from multiple devices, such as your computer, tablet, and smartphone. IMAP is a popular protocol that's used by many email service providers, including Gmail and Yahoo.

How does IMAP work?

IMAP works by syncing your email messages between your devices and the email server. This means that when you receive a new email message on one device, it will automatically be available on all of your other devices. Additionally, if you delete a message from one device, it will be deleted from all of your devices.

Why is IMAP important?

If you're an eCommerce business that sends out regular newsletters, knowing that both you and your subscribers have access to email messages from multiple devices is essential.

On the one hand, it allows you to stay on top of your emails and respond to any customer inquiries or issues quickly and easily, no matter where you are. For example, if you're traveling and receive an important email from a customer, you can respond to it right away using your smartphone, without having to wait until you get back to your office. This can help to improve customer satisfaction and strengthen your relationship with your customers.

Similarly, it enables your customers to keep track of your email communications, offers, and product recommendations, so they can complete purchases on their phones. This behavior (m-commerce) is increasingly common and further emphasizes the need for mobile-optimized email designs.
