Spam

What is Spam?

Spam is an unsolicited message that is delivered in mass or without the recipient's consent over the internet, generally to a large number of users, for profit, fraud, or malicious intent. It frequently comes in the form of social media postings, texts, or emails that link to malicious websites or software.

Because of this phenomenon, email providers have developed filters that automatically send these messages to a separate folder called the Spam folder.

How does Spam work?

Spammers use a variety of techniques to get their messages into people’s inboxes. They often use deceptive subject lines, misleading content, and fake sender addresses. They also use automated programs called bots to send out millions of emails at once.

But not all spammers are malicious. Sometimes genuine businesses can end up sending spam emails. This can harm your brand's reputation and negatively impact your email marketing campaigns. Spam emails can result in decreased open rates, lower click-through rates, and even unsubscribes from your email list.

To prevent your emails from ending up in the Spam folder, you need to:

Use authentication systems

To stop malicious actors from spoofing your domain, you can also use an email authentication system like SPF, DKIM, or DMARC.

Get permission

Make sure you have the permission of the recipient before sending them an email. This can be done by asking for their email address on your website, social media pages, or through a sign-up form.

Use a reputable email service provider

Make sure you use a reputable email service provider that follows best practices for email marketing.

Avoid using spam trigger words

Spam trigger words are words that are commonly associated with spam emails. Examples include "act now," "limited time," and "money-back guarantee." Avoid using these words in your email content.

Personalize your emails

Personalizing your emails by addressing the recipient by name and providing individualized content and product recommendations can help you build a stronger relationship with them and reduce the chances of your emails being marked as spam.

Test your emails

Test your emails before sending them out to your entire email list. This can help you identify any issues that may trigger spam filters.
