User Intent

What is User Intent?

User Intent refers to the underlying reason behind why a person is visiting your website. It’s the motivation behind the search query they entered or the reason they clicked on your ad. It’s what they are hoping to find or accomplish when they reach your site.

There are three main types of user intent:

Navigational intent

The user is looking for a specific website or brand.

  • Example: A person searching for “Amazon” is likely looking for the Amazon homepage.
Informational intent

The user is looking for information on a specific topic.

  • Example: A person searching for “best-running shoes” is likely looking for information on the best shoes for running.
Transactional intent

The user is looking to make a purchase or take a specific action.

  • Example: A person searching for “buy running shoes” is likely looking to purchase a pair of running shoes.

Why is User Intent important?

Understanding your customers’ user intent can help you create content, ads, and offers that are more targeted and effective. If your customers are looking for information, create educational content that answers their questions. If they are looking to make a purchase, create special offers or promotions to entice them.

How to include User Intent in your marketing strategy

  • Research your target audience and determine their user intent.
  • Create content, ads, and offers that align with your customers’ user intent.
  • Use keywords that match your customers’ user intent in your website, ads, and content.
  • Continuously monitor and adjust your strategy based on your customers’ changing user intent.

By understanding and leveraging user intent, you can create a more effective online marketing and eCommerce strategy that resonates with your customers and drives conversions.
